Old Opera House Acting Studio Spring 2010 – Class Descriptions
Expand your theatrical horizons with NEW convenient mini-sessions! In order to provide your young performer with many different theatrical experiences and options, the Old Opera House Acting Studio is now offering shorter class sessions. This will allow students to pick several different areas of concentration.
All classes are for ages 8 to 18.
Instructional Classes help prepare students for on-stage experience. Not only will students learn the basics for dramatic and musical theater, but they will gain confidence, self-discipline and the value of team work as well. Instructional classes are great for all experience levels and are a wonderful addition to performance classes.
Acting: Playwright (Session 1) In this class, students will learn playwriting basics, as they develop their own one-act plays. In addition, students will also be given the opportunity to build their own acting skills through mini-lessons and theater games.
Acting: Musical Theater (Session 2) In this class, students will learn the fundamentals for musical theater. Each week's class will include theater games and varied lesson concentrations, such as: acting, characterization, singing, and dancing. A great class for all levels of experience
Behind the Scenes (Session 2) In this class, students will learn about the creative decisions that go on behind the curtain. Students will learn about scenery, costuming, make-up, and hair design. Acting: Improvisation (Session 3) In this class, students will learn about acting and improvisation. Through mini-lessons and theater games, students will learn to think on their toes and keep their audiences laughing.
Performance Classes are designed to allow students to use their talents on stage. Performance classes are open to all interested, but are cast based on auditions held during class time. At the end of the semester students will put on a performance for family members, to be performed at the scheduled class time. Song and Dance (Sessions 1 & 3) In this class, students will put their talents on display. A class centered on performance, students will learn songs and dances to perform for parents on the final day of class.
